The Little Soul and the Sun by Neale Donald Walsch

My 5-star Review
Why Do We Do the Things We Do?

This book made me rethink my attitude toward those who commit acts of cruelty and injustice. The Little Soul and the Sun, written by Neale Donald Walsch and illustrated by Frank Riccio, tells the story of a little disincarnate soul who wants to experience the act of forgiving when she incarnates. But since everything the Creator made is perfect, there would be no one to forgive. So another little disincarnate soul offers to incarnate with her and do something really terrible, in order for her friend to experience forgiving. When asked why she would be willing to behave despicably, the friend replies, “I would do it because I love you.”
I’ve owned this book since its publication in 1998 and have reread it many times over the years. The recent chaos and unrest in the United States and around the world has moved me to read it once again. And my heart soared. There are many ways to respond to heartless injustice and despicable acts of cruelty. We can react in anger, close and fill our hearts with hatred, and forget who we truly are. Or we can keep our hearts open, move into gratitude, rise above the chaos, and engage in meaningful nonviolent action in an attempt to right the wrong.
If in fact we do make contracts with the Creator and other souls before we incarnate, everything that plays out here on Mother Earth is a lesson we chose to learn and an experience we wished to have. Both the act of cruelty and the remedial action are opportunities for growth. If the contract involves two-way action, then the remedial action must be carried out, lest the contract become null and void.
Given the Earth is a bipolar planet ~ coupled with the law of physics: all matter converts to energy ~ we can infer that our lessons will be of a bipolar nature.
Darkness defines the light.
Evil defines good.
This book touches me deeply every time I read it. I think it no accident that it’s beautifully illustrated and designed as a children’s book; for in order to change attitudes and behavior cultivated over a lifetime, we must speak to the child within. I am grateful to Mr. Walsch and Mr. Riccio for the enlightening pearl of wisdom they have given us ❤

  1. Reblogged this on Smorgasbord – Variety is the spice of life and commented:
Tina Frisco with a review of a book that she has had and read many times since 1998. I suggest that you read Tina’s review for yourselves and perhaps reflect on our contribution to events and acts of terror. Forgiveness almost seems impossible but the way we are behaving towards each other now is not working .. something has to change.

  2. Thanks for bringing this, what seems a beautiful book to my attention T. What a premise, turning a soul bad just to teach a lesson.
I have a question: if we choose who and what we will be when we incarnate, what if we didn’t choose to live among evil but are subjected to it because of the choice of others? Just a thought. I’m bookmarking this one. ❤

    1. Good question, Deb. There are no accidents, but there are circumstances beyond our control. A fine line, I know. It’s like choosing to swim in the ocean, but not choosing to get caught in an undertow. Good and evil are polar opposites. When we choose to incarnate on a bipolar planet, we choose to live amid both. However, once born, we must forget all that transpired while disincarnate; otherwise, we might decide to forgo learning the very lessons we came here to learn. I hope that helps. And I know you’ll love the book ❤

      1. I love your answer T. It’s like, nobody is promising us a rose garden. We come here with our intentions and have to adapt to the world around us to do so. Thank you. ❤ xoxo

    1. I purchased this book years ago after reading the entire Conversations with God books. I have kept it and often pick it up to read. It is simply stated and a wonderful read over and over.

  3. This book sounds like a gem, Tina, and we need all we can get to raise spirits in these dark times. The cover is beautiful, too. I used to believe in life-as-lesson and that our soul had a purpose and something to learn with each incarnation. I was quite convinced of it. As I’ve grown older, I’ve become less sure of almost everything related to the unmanifest world. A place of unknowing has made room for more possibilities but fewer certainties. I hope there is some cosmic reason for these tragedies, and perhaps in the long scope of history, they will contribute to a better world. In the meantime, I’ll choose the path of love and kindness. ❤

    1. Thank you for sharing, Diana. No matter the construct of or what awaits us in the Absolute, of this I am certain: The path of love and kindness is a sure and direct route to Nirvana. Your energy is bright, like that of Tinkerbell when all are clapping. As I’m sure you’re aware, the first step is “I do not know.” You’re facing the stars, Diana, the stars we once called “Home.” Perhaps it’s time to pull out our bicycles and join ET 🙂 ❤

    1. To me, Em, ‘prelife’ implies ‘no life’ before incarnating. ‘Agreements,’ however, is less immutable than ‘contract’ and suits well the Little Soul. Seems you’re on Little Soul’s wavelength 🙂 ❤

  4. I enjoyed your review of a book I haven’t read and now must! And I’ve also learned from the comments here, and your replies. Beautiful thoughts and ruminations. Life is a mystery- may we strive to live in it with kindness and love.

  5. I have all the series of N. D. Walsch’s book with Conversations with God and the ‘When everything Changes, Change Everything’.. And have found much inspiration within them all..
Seeing our Experiences from this angle opens ones eyes.. And it also confirmed for me again what I have been told via Spirit about incarnating to experience from each other the good and bad..

I replied to a comment recently on how those who deal in darkness are in fact contributing to those of us seeking out the Light.. For we can not experience one without the other.. Compassion and Love is now gaining momentum through such terrible acts that within our own perception we make little sense of, other than being evil and barbaric..

I must seek out this book of Neale’s as its one not yet on my book shelves..

Much Love Tina.. and thank you for sharing this wonderful review..

Love and Blessings my friend.. Sue xxx

  6. You’re welcome, Sue, and as always, I appreciate your keen insights. It’s amazing, isn’t it, how shifting our perspective in the slightest can open us to the Universe? So often we fail to see or remember the Earth is bipolar. and thus everything experienced upon Her will be bipolar. And how fortunate we are, because experiencing opposites deepens understanding and growth. So nice to share this with you, Sue. Love and hugs, dear friend ❤❤

  7. Despite the darkness and negativity that seems to be all around us, there is an awakening happening. Because of people like you, the vibration of the entire planet is rising. I get all giddy and excited when I think of it! Hugs, sweet soul sister. I love this book.
