Amy Freeman

Amy FreemanAmy Freeman is a writer, wife, mother, and dancer – mesmerized by the endless potential of the human spirit.  She lives in St. Augustine, Florida with her husband and the youngest of her five children.  She is also a Paranormal Romance and Horror author.  She writes: “The subconscious mind – where our brightest potential and our darkest fears sleep…in order to grow we must wake them both.”  I couldn’t agree more!  Welcome, Amy!

Tell us a little about yourself.  I was born and raised in Salt lake City, Utah and have lived in Nevada, Wisconsin, and Florida where we currently reside.  I love ghost stories, ballet, and squishing my three-year-old grandson.

What is the title and genre of your book?  My book is a New Adult Paranormal Romance titled, Shine the Knowing Ones.

Tell us a little about your book. Shine is the tale of Samantha ShineShield’s awakening to her place in a superhuman tribe centered on Manpupuner, a mysterious rock formation in the Ural Mountains of Russia.  Sam Shields has always had psychic abilities, but it isn’t until starting college and meeting Olympic star swimmer, Trin Kosolov, that she learns the true nature of her gifts.  Her world is about to change – unfathomable danger lies ahead, and Trin may no longer be enough to keep her safe from the evil that hunts her.

What inspired you to write it?  A dream!  I hadn’t written for years.  Life was fairly chaotic at the time.  I went to sleep one night and dreamed of a young man and woman shrouded in glowing white/blue light followed by a book cover with the title, Shine.  It really happened that way.  I’m not crazy… Well, I suppose that’s debatable…

When did you first start writing? I started writing as a child.  I wrote a screen play at age ten, first full length novel at thirteen, then two children’s books at nineteen.

What authors have most influenced you? How? Why?  I love Dean Koontz.  He is creative in a way I can totally relate to and has the most amazing way of weaving humor into supernatural terror.  He is a supernatural/horror poet!

How and where have you marketed your work?  Social media is a modern-day blessing to authors, if you can make the time and find a way to stand out.  There are several sites that will promote an author’s work for free.  I also use media such as local newspapers, talk radio, and local book sellers and libraries.  I am shameless in asking for marketing.  You have to be.  Richard Paul Evans says, “If you don’t fight for your book, who will?”

Do you have other publishing credits?  I have articles published in Meridian Magazine and Moab Adventure Magazine.  Shine will be my first published novel.

What is your current writing project?  I am currently up to my eyeballs working on the second book in the Shine series.

Do you have a website and/or blog?  Yes.  (See Amy’s links at the end of this interview.)

Where can your book be purchased?  Shine comes out mid-July and will be available on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/   http://www.amazon.co.uk   http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Store/b?ie=UTF8&node=133140011

What advice would you give to a new writer?  Never quit.  Keep writing, keep reading, and JOIN WRITING GROUPS!  Critique groups are invaluable in successful writing.  Attend conferences and learn as much as you can.  Writing is a craft. You must learn to do it!

What do you wish to say to your readers?  My book couldn’t have come to life without you.  I love you all.  Thank you for sharing in my living daydreams!
