Hummer’s Mean Home: Part I (Perching)~

Brilliant post by Cindy Knoke on hummingbirds. Her description of one little hummer, as well as that of her husband, are not to be missed! Looking forward to Part II with acquisitive anticipation 😊

Coming home means hanging out with the hummers.

I don’t worry about them when I’m gone.

I just miss them.

My husband, the actual-factual, logical-biostatistician, said incredulously, “They fly up to me like they missed me.”

He’s not used to thinking like this,

but he can’t help noticing such obvious birdy behavior.

Speaking of birdy behavior, we are having a problem this year.

The snoozing little capitalist you see above is dominating two quart-sized feeders and relentlessly attacking and driving all hummers off who try to feed. He spends more time hoarding nectar than feeding and snoozes all the time because he’s exhausted from all his effort. Of course he can’t even begin to drink this much nectar!

You can see him perched on the wire above the feeder, waiting to attack any bird that dares to drink! We have three feeders now spaced far apart to control him, one…

Blumen Baden~

Cindy Knoke is traveling and sharing all the lovely photos she’s taking along the way. She’s currently in Baden-Baden, and these gorgeous flowers are on the Lichtenthaler Alle along the River Oos.
Baden-Baden is a spa town in southwestern Germany’s Black Forest, near the border with France. Its thermal baths led to fame as a fashionable 19th-century resort. Alongside the Oos River, park-lined Lichtentaler Allee is the town’s central promenade.
ENJOY!

Baden-Baden’s spring bloom is just beginning.

The tulips on the Lichtenthaler Alle,

a strolling avenue and park,

that follows the River Oos,

are beginning their splendid spring bloom.

The park,

created in the 19th century,

is a wonderland of exotic plants and flowers.

Cheers to you from Baden-Baden’s glorious alle~

“I shot these on June 4rth/14. The eagle is Romeo. My favourite feathered friend. He’s always happy to see & pose for me. Our weather here has been very poor. If I don’t get the light, I do not go out. So I haven’t seen my friend in what seems like an eternity!”

“October in Tofino has been unusually rainy ……………even for us! I went for a bike ride/walk on Chestermans today. I think I ran into three people. You can always tell how bad the storm is by the number of people you run into out on the beach. I’ve been out there in raging winds & hard rain with nobody else, but If you go during a warm summer day, there are several hundred out there. So I use what I call the “Tofino” Scale to determine how large a storm is. There is the “Richter” scale for earthquakes, the “Beaufort” scale for wind strength & the “Fujita”scale for Tornados. I use the “Tofino” scale to determine how bad a storm is.

The “Tofino” scale uses the number of people found on the beach by me during an average walk. A number of 500 is considered a very excellent day to be out & about, while a number of 0 means a very bad storm. (500-0, excellent to bad) Today was a three.

So I’ve decided to repost a couple of shots I took. I shot these on April 27th/09. What you’re seeing is a rainstorm with the setting sun in behind. All colours are original & have not been altered.”
